Audi have introduced the fourth generation A3 Sportback and second generation A3 sedan. These new models offer a sportier look and efficient drive while also offering a digital operating concept and numerous other innovations. The A3 range including the five-door Sportback, four-door Sedan and S3 will go on sale in South Africa on 1 August.

Modern sporty design

Upfront a wide single frame grille and large air inlets accentuate a dynamic character while a strong shoulder line joins the front and rear lights.

The Sportback and Sedan will be offered in three trim lines. The Standard model features 16-inch wheels and black detailing around the grille and intakes. The Advanced model gets bigger 17-inch wheels and exterior detailing that includes chrome on the Advanced line bumpers. S3 models feature sportier touches to the bumpers, suspension and a spoiler on the Sportback.

Inside story

Inside a sporty and sophisticated design includes a sleek new gear selector, aluminium or carbon inlays, wedge like door handles and an instrument panel with black-finish look.

The cockpit is wholly focussed on the driver and features a 10.1-inch touch screen display that is integrated into the centre console while the instrument cluster is also fully digital.

The MMI operating concept is powered by a new third-generation modular infotainment platform. The Audi A3 range boasts fully integrated connectivity including online services such as advanced infotainment, navigation and a Car to X service, which utilises swarm intelligence. Cell phone connectivity is possible via the myAudi app, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto as well as the Audi phone box.

Performance personified

The sporty S3 is distinguished by a single frame grille with large rhombus patterns, impressive air inlets, aluminium mirror housings, specific bumpers, suspension, Quattro all-wheel drive, 19-inch wheels and red brake calipers. At the rear a large diffuser and four exhaust pipes mean business.

Under the bonnet

In South Africa the Audi A3 will be offered with two engine options, with a third becoming available later in 2021. The 1.4 TFSI fitted to the A3 35 TFSI offers 110kW and is paired with an eight-speed tiptronic transmission.

The A3 40 TFSI that is fitted with a 2.0 TFSI engine that boasts 140kW and is paired to a seven-speed S-tronic transmission will be available from November 2021.

The performance focussed S3 TFSI is designed to impress with 213kW and 400Nm on tap, transferred into forward momentum via Quattro and a seven-speed S-tronic transmission

Updated safety systems

When equipped with the optional Audi pre sense front, the parking assist and the lane departure warning, the new A3 models help prevent accidents with other road users and offers a high level of safety. Additional lane change and exit warnings as well as the cross traffic, are also available.

Choose your options

The new A3 will be sold with a variety of option packages that aim to reduce the complexity of ordering a new vehicle, considering that a customer is generally faced with a long list of options to choose from. The packages group together key options according to customer needs and offer easy to understand value proposition.
