BMWs M division is expanding its line up of ultra sporty CS models with the addition of the BMW M5 CS. This is the first time that a limited run special edition version of the legendary BMW M5 is being offered and is capable of giving four people an extraordinary driving experience.

The new high-performance flagship from BMW M sets new standards with its combination of standout driving attributes and luxurious appearance.

Powerful engine and lightweight design

The 4.4-litre V8 engine boasts 467kW, an increase of 7kW over the M5 Competition, torque remains unchanged at 750Nm. This makes the M5 CS the most powerful car in the history of BMW M.

Equipped with the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic, the BMW M5 CS surges from 0-100km/h in 3.0 seconds and needs just 10.3 seconds to reach 200km/h on its way to an electronically governed top speed of 305km/h.

A total weight saving of 70kg, bespoke chassis tuning and the M xDrive system with Active M differential combine to create everyday usability and exceptional track performance in the same car.

Room for four

Four passengers can enjoy the superlative driving experience served up by the BMW M5 CS, two in multi-adjustable, weight-saving M carbon seats upfront and two in individual rear seats. All seats are covered in fine-grain Merino leather, the rear in a combination with black and contrasting panels and decorative stitching in Mugello Red. The outline of the legendary Nurburgring circuit is displayed on the head restraints, while the front seats also feature illuminated M5 logos.

The rim of the M Alcantara steering wheel is wrapped in the race-derived material while the centre marker perforation represents a classical racing car touch. The gearshift paddles are made from carbon fibre and the steering wheel spokes have Black Chrome trim. The seat belts feature red and blue contrast stitching in another nod to the BMW M colours, which also appear in an M5 badge on the floor mats and in the illuminated M5 CS badge on the doorsill finishers.

The BMW M5 CS cuts an unmistakable figure with exclusive interpretations of BMW icons, including a BMW kidney grille surround in Goldbronze and L-shaped light tubes of the BMW Laser headlights, which illuminate yellow instead of white when low beam, high beam or welcome light is switched on, reminding of successful GT racing cars. In addition to Brands Hatch Grey metallic, the special edition model can also be ordered with the exclusive BMW Individual matt paint finishes Frozen Brands Hatch Grey metallic and Frozen Deep Green metallic.

Exotic materials all round

The special edition BMW M5 CS stands apart from the BMW M5 Competition with exclusive accents in Goldbronze, plus body elements in carbon fibre-reinforced plastic and some in exposed carbon fibre.

The BMW kidney grille surround, the 20-inch M forged wheels in Y-spoke design as well as the M5 CS badges are finished in Goldbronze. The bonnet is made entirely from CFRP and features air vents with applications in exposed carbon fibre. The splitter on the front apron, exterior mirror caps, additional rear spoiler on the boot lid and the rear diffuser are made of CFRP, all contributing to the 70kg weight saving.

Agility of the highest order

The M xDrive system allows the cars handling characteristics to be modified in stages from variable all-wheel-drive mode (4WD) with its rear biased baseline setup through to a pure rear-wheel drive setting (2WD) without intervention from the Dynamic Stability Control.

The stiffer M5 Competition chassis, Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres, modifications to the springs, suspension and anti-roll bars and a seven millimetre drop in ride height all contribute to unbeatable handling dynamics for a vehicle of this size.

Stopping power

The M Carbon ceramic brakes deliver superb stopping power. Upfront are six-piston callipers finished in red along with the M logo. The M Carbon ceramic brakes are 23 kilograms lighter than the steel brakes found on other M5 models and offer improved fade resistance and higher thermal stability.

The right soundtrack

The sports exhaust system delivers an emotionally stirring M-specific soundtrack, which accentuates the engine’s linear power development and appetite for revs. The dual-branch, flap-controlled system has been designed to amplify the engine note and offer sportier and clearer feedback, while ensuring it remains suitable for everyday conditions. The sound changes depending on which of the various modes affecting engine characteristics is selected, taking on a particularly powerful tone in Sport+.

When will it be available?

Just five examples have been allocated for the South African market and will go on sale in the third quarter of 2021.
