The fourth generation of Kia’s large SUV has been designed and engineered to handle everything that life could throw at it.

During its two-decade life span the Sorento has evolved from a utilitarian all-terrain vehicle to a SUV that offers the perfect balance between premium quality and value for money.

What’s new?

A redefined exterior design with sharper lines, high-tech details and elongated proportions give the Sorento a more confident and mature presence. Inside the attractive cabin introduces premium quality materials, cutting edge infotainment and a modern design.

The Sorento is the first vehicle to be based on Kia’s new generation large SUV platform and paired with a bigger body to maximise cargo and luggage space resulting in one of the most versatile and spacious three-row SUVs on the road.

Designers sought to maintain the robust, tough looking aesthetic of earlier generations of Sorento, while adding more refinement and elegance. The bodywork now incorporates sharp lines and creases that result in a more confident, mature and desirable overall design.

Upfront is a new interpretation of the tiger nose grille along with new tiger eyeline LED daytime running lights, which are complemented by a wide, rectangular lower air intake.

The Sorento retains its wide D-pillar, substantial bodywork and clad wheel arches that have defined all the previous generations. New vertical tail lamps wrap around the side of the body. Trim on the sporty lower rear bumper embodies the appearance of dual tailpipes and like the front features a skid plate to add to its tough SUV aesthetic. The new Sorento is available in 10 paint finishes and with 18 or 19-inch aluminium alloy wheels.

Under the bonnet

Kia’s new Smartstream diesel powertrain offers greater fuel efficiency, lower emissions and better performance than its predecessors. This 2.2 litre power plant boasts 148kW at 3800rpm and 440Nm from 1 750rpm and is paired to a new eight-speed wet double-clutch transmission

All-wheel drive models offer enhanced all-terrain capability thanks to a new Terrain Mode which control the cars electronic stability control, distribution of torque and gearbox shift points according the conditions.

Inside story

The intuitive, tech-oriented cabin includes premium-quality materials and cutting-edge infotainment. The 12.3-inch digital driver instrument is flanked by a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment screen in the centre. These screens display information clearly within the driver’s line of sight and create an innovative wide-screen user experience. The car’s many functions can also be controlled with new haptic buttons on either side of the screen. An eye catching vertical ventilation stack extends onto the centre console, which houses a wireless smartphone charger.

Aided by the platforms longer wheelbase, the second-row seats now slide up to 45mm further, creating a wider point of entry to the third row with more space for feet and legs.

The Sorento offers high levels of active and passive safety as well as a range of driver assistance systems. Depending on specification, the ADAS range includes Kia’s latest Forward Collision Avoidance Assist technology with pedestrian, cyclist and vehicle detection. Also available is Blindspot View Monitor, Around View Monitor and Blindspot Collision Avoidance Assist, Smart Cruise Control, Lane Following Assist and Driver Attention Warning.

The Sorento is fitted with six airbags, Kia’s Vehicle Stability Management and Electronic Stability Control systems.
