Ford expands Ranger line up with plug-in hybrid
Ford Ranger plug-in hybrid promises electric driving capability
Ford will offer customers a plug-in hybrid derivative of the Ranger from 2025. The Ford Ranger plug-in hybrid promises electric driving capability along with adventure-ready versatility and work-ready dependability.
The first ever Ranger plug-in hybrid will mark a significant step forward in Ford’s plans to offer a wide range of powertrain options for customers in the mid-sized bakkie segment.
The Ford Ranger plug-in hybrid promises a best of both worlds’ solution for work, play and family, offering customers zero-tailpipe emissions fully-electric driving capability for short trips, or hybrid performance that delivers incredible on and off-road performance.
The Ranger plug-in hybrid promises more torque than any other Ranger, thanks to a 2.3-litre Ford EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engine paired to an electric motor and a rechargeable battery system. This allows the vehicle to be driven in fully electric mode for more than 45 kilometres without using any fuel or producing any tailpipe emissions.
In addition, with Pro Power Onboard, Ranger owners will have power for both work and play. This system allows users to power tools or appliances on a worksite or remote campsite by plugging them into power outlets embedded in both the cargo bed and the cabin, eliminating the need for noisy generators in many cases.
In addition to offering on-demand electricity, the Ranger plug-in hybrid’s EV drive modes give users more flexibility in deciding how and when to use the EV battery power.
Naturally, the Ranger plug-in hybrid is also fitted with the Ranger’s proven four-wheel-drive capability. Selectable drive modes and advanced driver safety and driver assist features.
Ford hopes that the introduction of the Ranger plug-in hybrid will assist customers in moving towards and electrified future as the Ranger joins Ford’s global electrified offering that now includes the Mach-E, E-Transit, E-Transit Custom and Puma BEV.
South Africa introduction of the Ford Ranger plug-in hybrid is yet to be confirmed.
