The appeal of the already popular Ford Ranger Raptor has been heightened even further with the launch of the Special Edition version in South Africa, that will be produced in limited numbers to ensure exclusivity.

What’s different?

Enhancements to the Ranger Raptor include interior and exterior functional and styling enhancements, which include eye-catching decals and red accents to the fitment of the integrated sports hoop and practical Mountain top lockable black roller shutter.

Developed in conjunction with Ford Performance, the Ranger Raptor created an entirely new segment when it was launched in 2019 thanks to an ultra-strong chassis, bespoke suspension an tyres as well as a Terrain Management system.

The unique exterior enhancements and cabin updates make the off-road performance bakkie even more distinctive and desirable, while the fitment of the roller shutter significantly enhances practicality and security for owners.

The Special Edition version will be available in Conquer Grey, Frozen White, Performance Blue and Agate Black while a set of twin matte black racing stripes, edged with red contrast lines, to the bonnet, roof, lower body sides, rear wings and tailgate to set it apart.

Complimenting those distinctive racing stripes are front tow hooks finished in red, while the flared wheel arches, front and rear bumpers, door handles, and signature Ford embossed grille feature a matte black treatment that creates an even more imposing appearance than the standard Ranger Raptors grey exterior details.

The special edition Raptor is also fitted with the integrated black sports hoop, which first made its appearance on the Ranger Wildtrak. The lockable Mountain Top black roller shutter, as seen on the limited-edition Ranger Thunder. Allows goods to be safely secured in the load compartment, hidden from prying eyes and the elements.

Inside story

The already sporty interior of the Ranger Raptor has been given exclusive touches in the form of red stitching on the steering wheel, seats, and door cards in contrast to the blue of the regular Raptor. A raceway grey instrument panel adds further exclusivity. The instrument cluster incorporates distinctive red needles on the dials.

The sports seats are trimmed in technical suede, which provides optimum support during high-performance off-road driving while being extremely comfortable on a day to day basis. The steering wheel incorporates perforated leather hand grip sections, paired with Raptor DNA magnesium paddle shifters.

Under the bonnet

As is the case with the standard Ranger Raptor, the Special Edition version is powered by Ford’s 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo diesel engine that offers 157kW and 500Nm. The innovative powerplant offers a great combination between power and efficiency thanks to its combination of a small high-pressure turbo and a large low-pressure turbo that ensures optimal performance throughout the rev range.

A key contributor to this is the 10-speed automatic transmission, that does a great job of keeping the engine in the sweet spot in terms of responsiveness, refinement, and fuel efficiency.

Pricing

The Ranger Raptor Special Edition is priced at R965 300, while the regular Ranger Raptor retails for R920 300.
