Following in the footsteps of the successful Ford Ranger Thunder, Ford South Africa will be introducing a special edition Ranger Stormtrak later this year.

The Ranger Stormtrak will follow a similar recipe as the limited edition Thunder with increased styling, sophistication and exclusivity thanks to luxury appointments.

What makes it different?

The Ranger Stormtrak will feature unique design elements including a black grille featuring red inserts, a black insert in the lower section of the front bumper, black stickers for the bonnet and doors, black roof rails and 18-inch wheels finished in gloss black.

Further setting this special Ranger apart are three-dimensional Stormtrak logos on the lower part of the doors and on the rear tailgate. A vibrant new paint colour, named Lucid Red, will also make its debut on this model. The Stormtrak can also be ordered in Sea Grey, Frozen White and Blue Lightning.

Added practicality

Everyday practicality of the Ranger has been enhanced with the fitment of Ford’s new Power Roller Shutter for the rear load compartment allowing goods to be safely secured in the load bed, complemented by the tailgate locking mechanism.

Adding further versatility is an adjustable bed divider kit that allows for easy compartmentalisation of the cargo area according to the size of items being carried and prevents goods from shifting around when driving. The drop-in bed liner includes a useful 12-volt socket for powering accessories such as a camping fridge.

Bespoke interior touches

The interior includes special touches such as illuminated front scuff plates while the leather seats incorporate red stitching as well as the Stormtrak logo on the backrest. Red stitching can also be found on the soft touch dashboard, steering wheel and gear lever.

As with the Ranger Thunder, the Stormtrak features a high level of standard equipment. This includes the SYNC3 infotainment system with embedded navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality. FordPass functionality allows owners to remotely access numerous vehicle features such as remote and scheduled starts to either cool or heat the cabin, via their smartphone.

High level of standard equipment

An extensive list of innovative active and passive safety systems and driver aids includes Adaptive Cruise Control with Forward Collision Alert, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping Alert and Lane Keeping Aid, Driver Alert System and Semi-Automatic Parallel Park Assist.

Befitting of the Ranger Stormtrak’s range-topping status is the fitment of Ford’s 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo engine which boasts 157kW and 500Nm. It is paired with an advanced 10-speed automatic transmission.

The towing capacity of the Ranger Stormtrak remains unchanged at 3500kg, along with off-road driving pedigree such as a 800mm wading depth and 230mm ground clearance.

Pricing and availability

Pricing of the Ranger Stormtrak will be announced closer to the launch date, which is scheduled for later this year.
