The Honda CR-V enjoys an excellent track record in South Africa, having been one of the compact SUV pioneers when it was introduced more than 20 years ago.

To ensure that the CR-V retains its appeal, Honda has revised the exterior look slightly for the 2022 model year.

What's new?

Subtle design changes lend the CR-V a more modern appearance. The front and rear bumpers have been redesigned to further enhance an already bold and aggressive look.

In addition a broad-barred grille framed by curved, slim line headlights with integrated daytime running lights dominates the front end. Dual air intakes with a dark meshed finish split the colour-coded bumper while a metallic scuff plate underline the CR-V’s undeniable SUV identity.

The side profile incorporates the CR-V’s aerodynamic silhouette with a smooth roofline, integrated roof rails, a curved waistline and a raked rear screen.

At the rear, the inverted LED taillight clusters are linked by a chromed garnish strip and positioned high up on a tailgate that extends all the way down to bumper level. Twin exhaust tailpipes add a sporty touch on 1.5T models.

Contrasting protective cladding on the lower sections of the body panels, compliment the pronounced wheel arch extensions and add to the slightly rugged look, as do new, larger 19-inch alloy wheels on the top of the range models.

Under the bonnet

The range will continue to consist of four models comprising two different engine options and varying specification levels.

The 2.0-litre four-cylinder i-VTEC naturally aspirated engine boasts 113kW at 6500rpm and 189Nm at 4300rpm.

The 1 498cc turbocharged powerplant features direct fuel injection and variable valve timing to deliver 140kW at 5600rpm and 240Nm between 2000 and 5000rpm.

Both engines are paired to a CVT transmission with G-Shift control logic, which transfers power to the front wheels. Only the 2.0L Exclusive model is now available with all-wheel drive underpinnings.

Inside story

The interior remains largely unchanged and still features high quality materials and finishes, soft touch surfaces, matt alloy accents and attractive stitching. A key interior highlight is the full colour TFT driver binnacle. A centrally located five-inch or seven-inch display in the centre stack, depending on the model provides user-friendly access to the CR-V’s infotainment system.

Standard active and passive safety features include dual front and side SRS airbags, curtain airbags, three-point inertia reel seatbelts all round and Isofix child anchor points at the rear. ABS with EBD, Agile Handling Assist, Vehicle Stability Assist and Hill Start Assist help to keep the vehicle out of trouble.
