Hyundai has added yet another SUV to its range in South Africa with the launch of the Grand Creta. This model expands on the popular Creta with an extra two seats as well as a longer body and wheelbase in addition to a long list of standard features, all at a very competitive price.

Five models on offer

The addition of this seven-seater Grand Creta, with differentiating looks and design features, means that Hyundai now offers one of the most comprehensive SUV ranges in South Africa. Two specification levels as well as two different engines and gearboxes means five derivatives catering for every customer need.

Bold well proportioned design

Hyundai’s Grand Creta pairs a bold and tall stance with elegant design. The grille features dark accents to set it apart while still remaining familiar amongst its siblings. Daytime running lights are standard on all models and form part of the neat headlight cluster. All lights, including the tail light feature LED technology.

Despite being substantially longer the Grand Creta’s side profile remains well proportioned, thanks in part to a 15 cm longer wheelbase as well bold wheel arches that house 17 or 18-inch alloy wheels.

A dark chrome strip between the rear light clusters, a bold Hyundai logo and twin exhausts round off the rear design.

Spacious, well appointed interior

The interior of the Grand Creta is characterised by an uncluttered design complete with premium dual tone interiors and artificial leather seats.

Elite derivatives are fitted with a 10.2-inch Supervision cluster and engine start button. Standout specification items include a sunroof, automatic climate control, blue ambient lighting strips and curtains for the rear windows. An infotainment system with eight-inch touch screen and connectivity for Apple’s CarPlay or Android Auto as well as a multi-function steering wheel, cruise control and wireless charging are standard across the range.

The outstanding interior feature is the two seats that fold out of the boot area floor to provide space for seven occupants. The second row seatbacks can be folded down in a 60:40 ratio, which enables several seating configurations and allows for the transportation of long objects for example.

Safety comes standard

Several active and passive safety systems combine, resulting in an impressive safety package. Front, side and curtain airbags are complimented by SmartSense active safety features, which include front and rear park assist for the Elite derivatives, Hill-Start Assist Control and ESP on all models.

Under the bonnet

The Hyundai Grand Creta is available with two powertrain options including a 2.0-litre Smartstream MPI engine and a Smartstream 1.5 litre diesel CRDi engine with the option of a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox.

The petrol powered 2.0 litre option boasts 117kW at 6500rpm and 191Nm at 4500rpm. This model is said to use 8,5 litres per 100km in manual guise and 8,9 litres per 100km when paired with an automatic gearbox.

The 1.5 litre offers 85kW at 4000rpm and 250Nm between 1500 and 2750rpm, while using less than 5,0 litres per 100km on the open road or 6,5 litres per 100km on the combined cycle.

Seven modes to choose from

Elite derivatives of the Grand Creta benefit from a front wheel drive traction control system and a drive traction control system that makes it easier to navigate difficult terrain. These modes include settings for Snow, Mud and Sand. In addition Elite derivatives allow drivers to choose from an additional three drive modes including Eco, Sport and Normal.

Redesigned underpinnings

The suspension set up consists of a McPherson strut setup in front coupled to a torsion beam axle at the rear. This combined with the longer wheelbase ensures a well-composed quiet ride with low levels of Noise, Vibration and Harshness on tar and gravel roads.
