Jeep have introduced the five-seater Grand Cherokee in South Africa alongside the luxury seven-seater long-wheelbase stablemate. As with its stablemate the five-seater Grand Cherokee features an all-new architecture, all-new exterior design and all new interior.

Modern exterior design

The Grand Cherokee’s slim, sculpted exterior ensures a modern, updated, premium appearance. Upfront a wider, larger seven-slot grille and new front fascia conceal long-range radar and other advanced technology features.

A lowered, tapered roof improves aerodynamic performance and efficiency without sacrificing cargo space and practicality. A low beltline and expansive glass allow for increased outward visibility.

Inside story

With 4 094 litres of total interior passenger volume and 1068 litres of cargo space, the new Grand Cherokee offers enhanced levels of comfort and space. The luxury interior has evolved and now features the best materials and amenities. The dashboard houses slim air conditioner vents, a re-aligned centre stack for greater driver accessibility as well as dual 10.1-inch digital screens and a 10.25-inch front passenger interactive display. The centre console is home to updated switches, more storage space and a wireless charger.

16-way adjustable front seats feature power lumbar and memory functions while higher specification models include a massage function. Heated/vented seats are available for all passengers.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee features more than 100 advanced safety and security features including things like Full-Speed Collision Warning with Active Braking and Pedestrian or Cyclist Detection, Rear Cross Path Detection, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Active Lane Management and many more.

All models in the Grand Cherokee range are fitted with a state-of-the-art McIntosh audio system that comprises 19 speakers and offers Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring capability.

It can go off-road

Despite being a luxury vehicle these days the Grand Cherokee still has the technology and capability to tackle serious off-road terrain. This technology includes the renowned Quadra-Trac II 4x4 system, Quadra-Lift air suspension and Selec-Terrain traction management. The Quadra Trac II system features an active transfer case to improve traction by moving torque to the work wheel with the most grip. Quadra-Lift, now with electronic semi-active damping, delivers ground clearance of up to 287mm and 610mm of water fording while featuring five height settings for optimum ride performance.

Selec-Terrain lets customers choose the on or off-road setting needed for optimum performance across a variety of terrain from one of five modes.

Front axle disconnect automatically places the Grand Cherokee in a two-wheel drive configuration, reducing drag and improving fuel economy with four-wheel drive automatically re-engaging when the vehicle senses it is needed.

A tried and tested engine

Under the bonnet is a 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 engine that offers 210kW and 344Nm and

is mated to a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission, which enhances fuel economy and delivers crisp and smooth gear changes. A wide spread of gear ratios helps keep the engine in the ideal rev range whether its cruising on the highway or exploring off-road trails.
