Kia unveils all-new Carens
Brand new Kia Carens earmarked for South African introduction
Kia recently unveiled their all-new Carens, a global recreational vehicle model from Kia that combines the sophistication of a family mover with the sportiness of an SUV.
The Carens is a comfortable and spacious three-row seater with the longest wheelbase in its class. Thanks to a bold design, high-tech features and industry leading safety systems, the Carens is set to redefine the family vehicle segment.
A plethora of practical features include connectivity features like the next generation Kia Connect app, flexible seating options, a sliding type seat under tray, retractable seatback table, a rear door spot lamp and a bottle and gadget holder in the third row, all features that enhance the ease of use.
The Carens will be offered with petrol and diesel engine options paired with seven-speed dual clutch and a six-speed automatic gearboxes respectively.
Hey good looking
The exterior design embodies Kia’s Opposites United design philosophy. Edgy character lines and rich volume within the side profile ensures a sporty yet sophisticated combination.
The front includes a sporty stable stance with high-tech details while the daytime running lights in the headlamps take inspiration from Kia’s star map lighting concept. A horizontal chrome garnish in the upper grille and the frame type chrome garnish in the lower bumper create an impressive tiger face. A SUV like side profile, a high front end with pushed back A-pillar, a straight roofline as well as optimum ground clearance further reinforce the SUV credentials. Finally, star map LEDs and a three-dimensional chrome garnish distinguish the rear.
The interior design is based on the Joy for Reason design pillar, which aims to create happiness through a combination of a warm and relaxing aesthetic.
The sophisticated interior features soothing colours, plenty of storage space and a layout designed to put all occupants at ease. The dashboard features a wide gloss black panel that accentuates the overall design, while the stylish door trims are designed in such a way that they offer voluminous storage space. Keeping passengers connected and entertained is a 10,25-inch touchscreen and Bose Premium Sound system.
Taking inspiration from aeroplane seats, all three-seat rows in the Carens combine comfort with aesthetics by matching materials, patterns and colours in an elegant manner. The centre switches are uniquely designed to highlight the smart experience the Carens offers. A one-touch easy electric tumble for the second-row ensures easy ingress and egress. In addition to the optimum space and recline functions, the third row seats can also be flattened in the boot to ensure maximum cargo space.
The next generation Kia Connect App now hosts updated and exciting features with added safety and convenience and now includes over the air map and system updates. Additional convenience features include wireless charging, rear door spot lamp, rear door sunshade curtains and five USB C-type ports.
Safety comes standard
The Kia Carens is a true family car, offering a number of active safety features including Kia’s Hi-Secure safety package. All models are fitted with six airbags, electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, hill-assist control, downhill brake control, brake assist system, highline TPMS and all-wheel disc brakes.
