Land Rover is expanding their Defender offering to now also include the 130 derivative. The Defender 130 ensures adventuring opportunities for up to eight adults across three rows of full sized seating. In addition a host of unique design elements, both inside and out distinguish the new Defender 130 and balance comfort with Defender durability and capability.

The Defender’s iconic silhouette has been extended by 340mm at the rear to create increased interior space for the three rows. An extended rear overhang creates additional space in the third row and luggage area. All models are fitted with a panoramic sunroof as standard, while a second sunroof located above the third row also features on all Defender 130s.

The distinctive rear design of the Defender has been retained thanks to a subtle boattail style uplift that also contributes to a departure angle of 28,5 degrees.

The Defender 130 features its own colour palette and the exterior is complemented by the Extended Bright Pack, which is available in addition to the existing Bright Pack, and sees all lower body panels finished in Ceres Silver Satin. The same detailing can also be found on the bonnet louvres and side fenders, which are then perfectly complemented by 20-inch Luna alloy wheels.

Inside story

Inside, thoughtful storage and convenience solutions are provided for every passenger across all three rows of seating as the Defender caters for passengers in every seat, with effortless access to the spacious three-abreast third row in a bright and airy cabin.

The interior design features new colour and material options, providing an amplified all-terrain experience. The latest connected technologies and chassis systems include a new, larger 11.4-inch Pivi Pro touchscreen, standard Electronic Air Suspension and Cabin Air Purification Plus.

Upon launch the new Defender 130 will be available in South Africa in X-Dynamic HSE and X specifications, in addition to a First Edition.

Third row seating is generous and will allow for three adults to travel in comfort. Additional touches such as heated seats, padded armrests, thoughtful storage and USB-C charging ports leave nothing to be desired.

Air conditioning ventilation in each row, with additional ducting as well as an optional four-zone climate control system, ensures that all passengers travel in comfort no matter the weather.

Getting in to the third row is effortless, as the second row seats slide and fold forwards to provide wide access.

Apart from additional seating capacity, the Defender 130 provides a spacious and practical load area, with up to 389 cubic litres of cargo volume with the rear seats in place. The seats can be stowed in a 40:20:40 configuration in order to create a large loading area of up to 2291 litres.

A variety of material finishes include a new material finish in the form of Natural Light Oak, which was inspired by driftwood and lends a natural, modern look and feel that perfectly compliments the Light Oyster Perforated Windsor Leather seating.

Under the bonnet

In South Africa the Defender 130 will be available with two engine options including the P400 mild-hybrid Ingenium six-cylinder petrol and the D300 Ingenium six-cylinder diesel. The P400 will offer 294kW and 550Nm from as low as 2000rpm, giving it the capability to sprint from 0-100km/h in 6.6 seconds. The D300 offers a great combination of torque, responsiveness and impressive fuel economy along with a 0-100km/h-sprint time of 7.5 seconds, thanks to a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder engine that produces 221kW and 650Nm.

Outstanding off-road ability

All 130 models are fitted with Land Rover’s Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system, which efficiently manages the powertrain and power distribution between the front and rear axles and an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission as standard.

In addition all models feature Electronic Air Suspension with Adaptive Dynamics and an advanced Terrain Response system that ensures unrivalled all-terrain capability.

Pricing and availability

The new Defender 130 will be available in South Africa towards the end of 2022. Pricing is due to be announced closer to that date.
