Land Rover Defender V8 arrives in SA
Iconic Land Rover Defender now available with powerful V8 engine
The most powerful Land Rover Defender ever built is now available in South Africa.
With a 5.0-litre supercharged engine under the bonnet that boasts 386kW and 625Nm, the new Defender builds on decades of Land Rover V8 heritage and compliments the existing Defender range of Ingenium petrol, diesel and advanced plug-in hybrid variants perfectly.
With 386kW on tap the Defender 90 V8 is capable of rocketing from standstill to 100km/h in only 5.2 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 240km/h, while the 110 takes 5.4 seconds to reach 100km/h.
The Defender V8 is available in both 110 as well as short-wheelbase 90 body designs and delivers the highest levels of performance without compromising on the Defenders on-road and off-road ability.
As with all Defender models engine power is transferred to the four wheels on a permanent basis thanks to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The suspension and transmission have been specially tuned to handle this more powerful engine. Spring and damper rates have been revised while a new Electronic Active Rear Differential allows for more agile and engaging handling with improved body control. Larger diameter solid anti-roll bars help reduce body roll further while cornering. The rear differential incorporates a yaw controller that allows for fine control of cornering attitude as the Defender reaches and exceeds the limit of grip.
An additional Dynamic program within the Terrain Response 2 gives the Defender a more playful and responsive nature, when needed. In this setting, a sharper throttle response and bespoke tuning for the dampers combines with stiffer suspension bushes for a more immediate steering response.
Defender V8 Carpathian Edition
The Carpathian Edition represents the ultimate expression of performance, durability and design. Finished exclusively in Carpathian Grey, it features a Narvik Black contrast roof, bonnet and tail door. Other visual highlights include V8 Carpathian Edition badges, Satin Black towing eyes and Xenon Blue Brake calipers.
The exterior is finished with Land Rover’s Satin Protective Film. This recyclable PU-based wrap has been applied to the external bodywork and has a dual-purpose including to give the Defender a contemporary semi-matte finish but also to protect against damage such as car park scratches and off-road bramble rash.
Inside the Carpathian Edition features the same upgrades as the regular V8 models, with seats finished in Miko suedecloth and robustec accents, an alcantara-wrapped steering wheels and illuminated tread plates.
Defender V8 customers can also select the new Extended Black Pack as an option which provides a black finish for the front and rear skid plates, grille bar, bonnet chequer finisher, badging, lower body cladding and wheel arches for a stealthy and purposeful appearance.
