The new motus.cars advertising campaign showcases that whatever car you’re searching for; you can find it on motus.cars and is centred around lifestyle choices and milestones. One of the key messages of this campaign is “Let’s get out of town” and highlights vehicles which are perfect for those motorists who enjoy road trips with their family.

Not everybody can afford large SUVs or big overlanders and fortunately there are some great crossover vehicles that will make the perfect getaway companion without breaking the bank. The Volkswagen T-Cross is one such option as it offers Volkswagen’s well sorted platform and engine in a package that includes versatility and additional ground clearance. Like all members of the Volkswagen SUV range, the T-Cross features an eye-catching appearance and a carefully balanced combination of style, refined practicality, and value for money.

Versatility and space

With its increased ride height, the T-Cross offers good ground clearance that allows it to handle a variety of road conditions. Whether you are planning on tackling highways or dirt roads, the T-Cross can manage it all and will allow you to explore different destinations without worrying about the terrain. Depending on the derivative, the T-Cross is equipped with 16,17 or 18-inch wheel options.

Thanks to being based on Volkswagen’s MQB platform the T-Cross offers access through four-doors and a remarkably generous wheelbase, which translates to increased interior space and a roomy interior feel. The elevated seating position is typical of an SUV which results in great visibility and a feeling that you are sitting in a much bigger vehicle.

Comfortable interior

Considering its exterior dimensions, the T-Cross boasts a roomy interior with more than enough leg and headroom. Added versatility comes in the form of a rear backrest that can be adjusted to open up additional loading space. Loading space is a very decent at 455 litres and with the seats folded flat this space expands to 1 281 litres.

The interior of the T-Cross is modern and attractive, and the seats offer excellent levels of comfort, ensuring that one can travel long distances without feeling fatigued.

Standout creature comforts include a multi-function steering wheel, air conditioning, USB ports, cruise control, a rear parking camera as well as an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Our test model was also fitted with a digital cockpit display which is available as an option.

The large-format dash pads correspond in colour and structure to the seat materials, steering wheel clasp, painted centre console, platinum grey trim colour and exterior finishes giving the interior a cool, sporty look. Up to four USB ports and optional inductive wireless charging ensure optimum connectivity and sufficient power for smartphones. Available as an option is a Beats sound system that includes a 300-watt, eight-channel amplifier, and a separate subwoofer in the luggage compartment.

The T-Cross boasts an outstanding five-star Euro NCAP safety rating with the T-Cross scoring highly in categories for adult occupant protection, child safety and active support systems. In addition to passive protection equipment, the vehicle also features Front Assist, which looks out for the safety of pedestrians and cyclists.

Fuel economy

Good news for people travelling on a budget is that all T-Cross models are fitted with fuel efficient engines. The 1.0-litre turbocharged models will return a combined figure of as low as 5,8-litres per 100km, while 1.5-litre turbo models will use just 6,6 litres per 100km. Eager drivers can rest assured that both models offer decent performance too thanks in part to the advanced seven-speed DSG gearbox that does a great job of keeping the engine in the sweet spot.

Summary

Volkswagens are known for their reliability and low maintenance costs, which not only ensures peace of mind on long trips, but during the entire ownership journey.

Despite its rather compact exterior dimensions we feel that the VW T-Cross over delivers in terms of space, comfort and versatility, which makes it a great companion for getting out of town.

The T-Cross is available in Trendline. Comfortline and Highline trim with a variety of engine and transmission options ensuring that there is a T-Cross to fit every budget.
