Mercedes-Benz launches refreshed A-Class
The new Mercedes-Benz A-Class offers perfectly balanced proportions, high-quality attention to detail in its design, the latest generation MBUX system and a model range that is rigorously geared to customer wishes in the compact segment. The A-Class will continue to be offered in both hatchback and sedan configurations.
Modern design
The front end of the A-Class is dominated by a forward sloping bonnet with two power bulges and a steep shark nose, a redesigned radiator grille with star pattern and flat headlamps. The sporty character is underlined by externally flush wheels with four rim designs available up to 19 inches. A new rear diffuser and standard LED rear lights ensure a fascinating and emotionally appealing appearance.
Inside story
The interior is dominated by a freestanding dual-screen display with a seven-inch and larger 10.25-inch display taking centre stage. The internal architecture features a very special lighting ambience that is reminiscent of the illumination of a futuristic building at night. The three-round turbine-look air vents, so typical of Mercedes-Benz are a homage to the world of aviation. A revised steering wheel is covered in nappa leather as standard, is compact and matches the high-tech character of the redesigned centre console.
A high-quality comfort seat features new, three-dimensionally embossed Artico upholstery which further emphasises the sportiness of the vehicle. A new, dark carbon-fibre look trim element enhances both the instrument panel and the doors. The AMG Line features bright brushed aluminium trim and red contrasting topstitching on the Artico/Microcut seats.
Inside, both hardware and software have taken a major leap forward and the latest generation of MBUX is intuitive to operate and capable of learning. The driver and central displays create a holistic, aesthetic experience that can be customised as desired with the help of the newly designed display styles which include Classic, Sporty, Discreet as well as three modes including Navigation, Assistance and Service and seven colour worlds.
The central display offers controls for functions including navigation, media, phone, and vehicle and can be operated directly and conveniently as a touchscreen. With the activation of online services in the Mercedes me App, the Hey Mercedes voice assistant is now even more capable of dialogue and learning.
Updates in terms of safety assistance include improvements to the Driver Assistance Package, where the control of the Lane Keeping Assist is much more comfortable thanks to the use of Active Steering Control. The latest Parking Package supports longitudinal parking and offers features such as 360-degree visualisation for camera-assisted parking using 3D images.
Under the bonnet
The Mercedes-Benz A-Class will be offered with a choice of two engines across the hatch and sedan body styles.
A 200 Hatch and Sedan models are fitted with a four-cylinder 1,3 litre engine that is paired with a 7G-DCT transmission and offers 120kW at 5 500rpm and 270Nm while using 5,6 litres per 100km.
The A 200 d Sedan features a 2.0 litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine that is paired to an 8G-DCT resulting in 110kW at 5 500rpm and 320Nm from 1 400rpm and uses just 4,5 litres per 100km.
Significantly upgraded equipment
Even in standard specification, the new A-Class offers a high level of standard equipment including a reversing camera, the USB package, or the steering wheel in nappa leather. The Progressive trim level, which is standard in South Africa, includes LED headlamps, a seat with lumbar support, the parking package, and the mirror package as standard.
Additional features that are normally ordered together are now bundled into equipment packages based on historical buyer behaviour.
