Twenty years after the launch of the modern Mini, the latest generation has been treated to a host of updates.

The same improvements have been applied to the Mini three-door hatch, five-door hatch and Mini Convertible.

What’s new?

Upfront the Mini receives a purist look thanks to a new front design while LED headlights are now standard equipment. LED units for the low beam and high beam ensure bright and even illumination of the road while a circumferential light band takes on the function of the daytime running lights and indicators.

The frontal look is now dominated by the characteristic radiator grille, hexagonal surround and hallmark round headlights. The central bumper strip is now finished in body colour.

Along the side the characteristic scuttles feature a new design and house the side indicators, which now also feature LED technology.

Redesigns to the rear include a new rear apron, and LED rear lights incorporating the Union Jack design in a darkened pattern, which are now standard fitment on all models.

Contrasting colours for the roof and exterior mirror caps have become synonymous with Mini. Now an innovative and globally unique paint finish in the form of the multitone roof is being offered. Featuring a colour gradient from San Marino Blue through to Pearly Aqua and Jet Black. Utilising a new paint technique, three colour shades are applied one after the other in a wet on wet painting process. In addition the choice of body paint colours has been expanded and now features three new colours.

The range of light-alloy wheels available for the Mini has been extensively renewed and now includes the 17-inch Pedal Spoke, an 18-inch Pulse spoke design as well as the John Cooper Works light alloys in the Circuit Spoke black design.

Inside story

The redesigned interior features sophisticated, modern, high quality finishes. New to the range are sport seats in the Light Chequered colour variant, paired with the Zesty Yellow exterior. The familiar Black Pearl fabric quality is given a new, expressive check look with the seams at the transition to the black imitation leather featuring a colour scheme that matches the fabric of the seat surfaces.

The design of the colour line is matched to the respective seat upholstery colour and the number of chrome elements has been significantly reduced.

The premium look of the hallmark central instrument has also been optimised. An 8.8-inch colour touchscreen display featuring touch-sensitive favourite buttons and Piano Black high-gloss surfaces is now standard. The audio control unit, hazard warning lights and driver assistance systems are now integrated into the circular central control unit.

A new operating system is now more advanced than ever before thanks to a new graphics display and further developed options for selecting and controlling vehicle functions, audio system, hands free telephone system, navigation and apps.

A newly designed sport steering wheel complete with multifunction buttons forms part of the standard equipment while the instrument display behind the steering wheel forms part of the standard Connected Media offering and features a five-inch display that provides all driving relevant information.

Under the bonnet

The engine line up comprises three or four-cylinder petrol engines. The three-cylinder 1.5-litre engines are available in 75kW and 100kW versions. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine boasts 141kW in the Cooper S or 170kW in the John Cooper Works models. All engines are paired with a seven-speed steptronic transmission while the JCW is fitted with an eight-speed steptronic transmission

With its electric motor, the Mini Cooper SE provides emission free driving fun while the lithium-ion battery allows for an estimated range of 215 kilometres.

New equipment packages and trims

A newly structured range of trims and equipment packages permits customers to optimally customise the three-door hatch, five-door hatch and convertible and allows customers to add their favourite options to the extended standard equipment range of the Mini in a simple and coherent way. Packages include the Connected Package, the Connected Navigation Package and Connected Navigation Plus Package.
