Mitsubishi has commenced the rollout of their face lifted Triton range with the single cab Triton GL.

Mitsubishi’s new entry-level Triton models are a perfect fit for fleet owners looking for a cost-effective solution in the face of the steadily rising fuel prices and recent interest rate hikes. In addition these workhorse solutions will more accurately cater for commercial customers needs and in doing so broaden the appeal of the Triton bakkie.

What’s new?

The most notable update is the refreshed exterior design cues, which include a black grille, black door handles, mirror, tailgate handle, black rear bumper and black side steps. The interior of GLS double cab models now feature rear air vents, auto headlamps and auto wipers.

Who said workhorses can’t look good? The Triton features Mitsubishi’s dynamic shield front design that incorporates a high hood line and beefy looking front view along with halogen headlamps. The body features sculpted curves with contrasting sharp lines, extended wheel flares and bright accents that exude strength.

Under the bonnet

The Mitsubishi Triton 4x2 single cab is powered by Mitsubishi’s proven DOHC intercooled 2.4-litre turbo-diesel engine, with 100kW and 324Nm on tap. Mitsubishi claim that this model boasts an average fuel consumption figure of just 8,0 litres per 100km, which is commendable for a vehicle of this type. A 75-litre fuel tank will thus ensure a range of over 900km.

GL models are paired exclusively with 4x2 underpinnings and a six-speed manual transmission. However they are equipped with a limited slip differential, for added grip on tricky surfaces or less than ideal roads.

Solid underpinnings

The Triton GL is based on solid underpinnings, including a rigid ladder frame chassis. The suspension layout consists of double wishbones with coil springs and a stabiliser bar upfront, while the rugged above-the-axle leaf spring rear suspension offers a great combination of traction and a load-carrying capacity of up to 1-ton.

Practical and full of features

The Triton GL rides on practical, cost effective steel wheels wrapped in 205R16 tyres. A central tailgate latch enables one-handed operation, while four integrated tie down hooks allow for the securing of cargo with ease.

Seats are covered in high-grade, tough, vinyl due to their hard wearing and easy to clean properties. Convenience features include central locking, power windows and manual air-conditioning. Standard safety equipment includes ABS, EBD, dual-airbags and an immobiliser.

Model range and pricing

The Triton commercial vehicle line up currently consists of the single-cab and double-cab GL derivatives, which are both sold with a three-year/100 000km manufacturer warranty as well as a five-year/90 000km service plan.
