Much anticipated Mazda CX-60 goes on sale
Mazda CX-60 showcases Japanese design inside and out
The much-anticipated Mazda CX-60 is the culmination of Mazda’s many years of experience and offers the perfect balance between beauty, performance, and functionality. The CX-60 represents everything Mazda has built into its DNA over the last 100 years, including outstanding interior and exterior design, the finest Japanese craftmanship, the latest innovations in human centric technologies and powertrains and is now available to South African motorists.
Modern Japanese design
Careful and meticulous development of the imposing front face and long nose versus rear silhouette gives the Mazda CX-60 a powerful and dynamic shape. The front grille adopts an adjusted aspect ratio which shows off the height of the grille and the signature wing features illumination functionality that further accentuates the powerful look of the grille. The CX-60s headlight arrangement features vertically stacked lamps and an L-shaped lighting signature that creates a new expression that conveys the strength of an SUV. In profile, the rearward positioning of the cabin lends the vehicle a dynamic sense of movement. At the rear, the lighting signature also adopts an L-shaped design that matches that of the front lamp clusters.
Inside story
Mazda’s famous sleek design language gives the CX-60 an edgy stylish road presence while the interior layout is created with the driver in mind. Since its inception Mazda has aimed at creating vehicles that instantly make the driver feel at home. As automotive technology has evolved it has become increasingly important to ensure that all these systems are developed to improve the driving experience for the people inside the vehicle and the Mazda CX-60 proves that over 100 years later, the secret to automotive excellence still lies with placing the driver first.
The CX-60 boats generous proportions in all directions resulting in spacious accommodation for all occupants, as well as generous load space. Including under-floor storage, the Mazda CX-60 has a 570-litre load space capacity, increasing to 1 148 litres with the rear seats folded flat and 1 726 litres when loaded to the ceiling.
The interior design follows the exterior in expressing the strength of the Mazda CX-60’s front-engine, rear-wheel drive SUV architecture. The wide instrument panel features continuous lines which run through the side air vents into the door trim, reinforcing the spaciousness of the interior. High quality textiles and textures are created using both traditional methods and new technologies and represent the highest levels of quality.
The Mazda Driver personalisation system fitted to the CX-60 utilises facial recognition to identify the occupant of the driver’s seat and automatically adjust the surroundings including seat position, steering wheel, mirrors, HUD, sound and climate control settings to fit their physique and personal preferences.
The driver’s cockpit area features three main instrument displays including a full 12-inch TFT-LCD driver’s instrument meter display, a large window Head-up Display and a 12.3-inch infotainment centre display.
The CX-60 features the latest version of Mazda Connect which includes enhancements such as quicker start up, improved image and sound quality and a free word search function. The system supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
The Mazda CX-60’s comprehensive range of advanced i-Active sense driver assistance systems ensures active safety at the highest level and includes See through view, which is a next generation 360-degree monitor with extended field of view at low speeds as well as Mazda Radar Cruise control. A variety of i-Active sense driver-supporting technologies include Advanced Smart City Brake Support, Lane-keep assist, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert.
Under the skin
The CX-60 adopts Mazda’s first rear wheel drive based AWD system that uses an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch. This full-timed 4WD system combines the neutral cornering performance characteristics of rear-wheel drive and balances it with the stability of all-wheel drive.
In South Africa, the Mazda CX-60 will be available with one engine option in the form of the 2.5 litre four-cylinder 16-valve DOHC S-VT (Skyactiv-G) petrol with i-Stop. The result is 141kW and 261Nm and a great balance between power and efficiency. This engine is paired to an eight-speed torque convertor automatic transmission that offers smooth and responsive gear shifting.
The CX-60 is equipped with Mi-Drive which includes Sport, Off-road and towing modes with the systems integrated control over the powertrain and braking optimising the distribution of drive force to all four wheels to handle the various driving environments.
