New Volkswagen Caddy to go on sale in November
The fifth generation of Volkswagen’s popular Caddy van model range is due for local introduction before the end of 2021
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles have confirmed that they will be launching the new Caddy locally from November 2021.
The fifth generation of this popular contender in the city van segment will be launched with a new naming convention with models under the Caddy, Caddy Maxi, Caddy Kombi, Caddy Maxi Kombi, Caddy Cargo and Caddy Maxi Cargo nomenclature.
The exterior features a striking sporty design and being based on the MQB platform allows the implementation of a variety of the cutting edge technology.
Exterior features will include new LED headlights and LED rear lights, painted body-coloured bumpers and black roof rails. Available optional extras include a panoramic sunroof, removable tow bar and 16-inch Wien alloy wheels.
Caddy and Caddy Maxi
Even in short wheelbase form, the new Caddy is broader and longer. The entry-level Caddy derivative comes standard as a short wheelbase with five seats and an optional seven-seat selection. The long wheelbase Caddy Maxi comes standard as a seven-seater.
Caddy Kombi and Caddy Maxi Kombi
The Caddy Kombi is an ideal vehicle for work or leisure and can easily be converted to suit various needs. The Caddy Kombi will be available as a short wheelbase with seven seats while the Caddy Maxi Kombi is available in a long wheel base version with five seats or optionally as a seven seater. Both models feature easily removable and folding seats as well as easy-access sliding rear passenger doors.
Features of the Caddy Kombi include black-coated bumpers, steel wheels, Halogen headlights and an electronic brake with auto hold. Optionally available equipment includes a rear view camera, LED headlights, App-Connect, multi-function steering wheel, 16-inch Wien alloy wheels, tow bar, rear wing doors, front fog lamps with cornering lights and cruise control.
Caddy Cargo and Caddy Maxi Cargo
The Caddy Cargo short wheelbase is 2 755mm in length and has a 3,1m3 load compartment volume while the 2 970mm long wheelbase features a load compartment of 3.7m3.
Highlights include up to six lashing rings in the load compartment, a brake assist system, electronically adjustable door mirrors, an electronic parking brake, Halogen main headlights and daytime running lights, single near-side sliding door, twin near-side and off-side sliding doors and a rear wing door which is split into a two thirds/one-third ratio.
The new Caddy is set to impress with high-tech solutions and more space. The Caddy Maxi Cargo is able to swallow two Euro pallets.
Upfront the indicator and control elements have been completely redesigned while new radio and infotainment systems are smartphone compatible.
Being based on a new platform means the inclusion of Volkswagens most advanced driver assistance systems including cruise control, Park Assist and rear view camera as well as trailer manoeuvring.
Under the bonnet
The new Caddy range will be available with one petrol and one diesel engine option.
The four-cylinder, 1.6-litre MPI engine offers 81kW and 152Nm and is coupled to a six-speed manual transmission. This engine will be available in the Caddy, Caddy Kombi (SWB) and Caddy Cargo (SWB) derivatives.
The four-cylinder diesel engine boasts 81kW and 300Nm and is paired to a six-speed manual transmission. The 2.0 TDI is available in the Caddy, Caddy Maxi (LWB), Caddy Kombi (SWB), Caddy Maxi Kombi (LWB), Caddy Cargo (SWB and Caddy Maxi Cargo (LWB) deerivatives.
The fifth generation Caddy will go on sale in South Africa in November. Pricing will be announced closer to the launch date.
