The arrival of the fourth generation model signals the reintroduction of the Opel Zafira to the South African market and gives motorists another option in the rather limited MPV segment.

The Zafira Life offers muscular, broad proportions featuring body-coloured contact points and chrome accents. Dark tinted side windows stretch into the back of the third row, ensuring a high level of comfort and privacy for passengers. Sunshade curtains on the side windows provide an additional layer of protection. Sliding doors allow for ease of ingress and egress, even in tight spaces.

The overall design reflects the Opel DNA and displays sculpted details, enhancing the feeling of precision and solidity. A high bonnet with two crisp lines flows from the windscreen to the grille and is framed by two distinctive headlights with LED running lights in an Opel wing design.

Inside story

The Zafira is characterised by reconfigurable interiors, high levels of comfort, advanced driving aids, a state of the art infotainment system, heads-up display and adaptive cruise control.

The Opel Zafira will be available in seven or eight seat configurations. The seven seater is badged Life and is fitted with second and third row which each contain three full-size seats on rails with individual seat belts.

The Life Elegance is a more luxurious offering aimed at business customers or families seeking more comfort. A full leather treatment and second row seating reduced to two individual seats with armrests and a VIP sliding and folding table create a lounge atmosphere.

The interior offers a functional and elegant cockpit with loads of storage spaces and ergonomics that ensure easy access to all controls as well as heated seats for the driver and front passenger.

The infotainment system in the Life model is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which mirror smartphone functions onto its seven-inch touchscreen. The Elegance takes this one step further with a multimedia Connected Navigation system, providing the driver with information on various destinations, traffic alerts, local weather and embedded voice control.

Safety and security precautions include front and side airbags, Driver Attention Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Speed Sign Detection, Blind Spot Detection and Forward Brake Assist depending on the model.

Under the bonnet

Both the Opel Zafira Life Edition and Elegance models are fitted with a refined and powerful 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine that offers 110kW and 370Nm. An eight-speed automatic transmission keeps the engine in the sweet spot and ensures frugal fuel consumption of 6.3 litres/100km on the combined cycle.
