Land Rover have revised their Range Rover Velar line up in South Africa to now include plug-in and mild hybrids as well as the popular Velar Edition among the extensive 13 model range.

The Velar Edition is based on the R-Dynamic SE and now includes the full Velar paint palette with a black contrast roof complemented by Black Pack exterior detailing and 20-inch gloss black alloy wheels. A sliding panoramic roof and privacy glass have also been added.

Electrified powertrains

The Range Rover Velar fills a void between the Evoque and Range Rover Sport in the line up and offers customers a perfect balance of design and technology. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder P400e plug-in hybrid offers a smooth and refined drive, producing a combined 297kW and 640Nm thanks to the combination between a 221kW petrol engine and a 105kW electric motor.

A 17.1kWh lithium-ion battery, located under the boot floor, can be charged to 80 percent in just 30 minutes when utilising a DC Rapid charge point, or in 1 hour 40 minutes using a standard 7kW wall box at home. With zero tailpipe emissions in electric mode, an impressive real world all electric range of 53km and fuel economy as low as 2.2 litres per 100km, the Velar features sustainability at its core.

The Velar P340 boasts 48-volt Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) technology that offers reduced fuel consumption and heightened refinement. The 3.0-litre straight-six petrol engine, badged as P340, features the latest technology for efficient performance. A Belt Integrated Starter Generator harvests energy usually lost under deceleration, which is then stored in a 48-volt lithium-ion battery located beneath the rear load space. This stored energy can be deployed to assist during acceleration or to improve the refinement and responsiveness of the stop/start system. With 250kW and 480Nm on tap the P340 is able to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 6,3 seconds.

Traditional engine options

The Velar is also available with a next generation four-cylinder Ingenium D200 diesel that offers 147kW. The straight-six D300 diesel offers 221kW and 650Nm while the four-cylinder petrol P250 boasts 184kW and a 0-100km/h sprint time of 7.5 seconds.

Pivi infotainment at the centre of the interior

The beautifully designed interior features integrated digital screens that feature Land Rover’s state of the art Pivi and Pivi Pro. Pivi has been designed to be easy to use, with a simple interface reducing the number of interactions needed to make adjustments, in order to enhance safety.

Health and wellbeing

A variety of innovative features ensure a rewarding and refined driving experience. Active Road Noise Cancellation technology is accompanied by Cabin Air Purification Plus and the expanded Advanced Driver Assistance Systems now includes a Rear Camera and Adaptive Cruise Control with Steering Assist as standard.

Adaptive Cruise Control is particularly useful on long journeys where it gently assists in steering, acceleration and braking to centre the vehicle in the lane while maintaining a set distance from vehicles ahead.

The second-generation wearable Activity Key is a water-resistant and shock proof wrist device that incorporates and LCD watch and can be used to start, stop, lock and unlock the vehicle without the need for the traditional key fob.
