On-road Elegance With The Pre-owned Hyundai Grand i10 Sedan

On-road Elegance With The Pre-owned Hyundai Grand i10 Sedan

Sophisticated design with a touch of modernity does not have to come at a steep price. Automotive excellence is no longer only a European standard, with many Asian car manufacturers going above and beyond with their offerings.

Take Hyundai, South Korea’s leading car maker, which stands out with its low-cost, economical buys. Renowned for their sleek design and plush interiors, they offer an elevated driving experience.

That said, when browsing through our curated collection of Hyundai pre-owned models, the Grand i10 Sedan may pique your interest. In the realm of automotive elegance, the pre-owned Hyundai Grand i10 Sedan stands out as a beacon of sophistication and comfort without the high price tag. Renowned for its sleek design and plush interiors, this sedan offers a driving experience that seamlessly blends style with functionality.

Redefined Aesthetics

The range carries two options for consumers to consider, both fitted with a 1.2L petrol engine and either a manual or automated transmission gearbox. The 4-cylinder engines reach max speeds of 167 km/h on manual and a 5.9 L/100 km fuel economy rate in the automated mode.

Graceful Design

Repurposed as the Grand i10 Sedan from the Aura variant in India, this car has much to boast. Starting with its design, while compact, it certainly has a contemporary feel and look. Fine lines and a robust grille are added touches to the exterior. It is a head-turner in the concrete jungle in our books.

Understated Luxury

Hyundai is not often associated with luxury exclusivity, but we can’t help but admire the interiors of the Grand i10 sedan on this one. Meticulous craftsmanship dots the cabin, from exceptional stitching to futuristic embellishments on the front dashboard. Although the cabin lacks shiny finishes, it is not cheapened in any way, which is appealing to consumers looking for practical elegance.

Hyundai is pushing towards more four-door sedan variations. Their last well-received effort was the iconic Elantra, which has sadly been discontinued. But the Grand i10 Sedan is more than a worthy replacement, in our opinion.

Book your test drive in one of our high-end Hyundai pre-owned models, from the Grand i10 Sedan to the Venue. Experience commitment, quality, and reliability you can trust with Motus Select.

Lexus the fifth generation RX

Lexus the fifth generation RX

A milestone performance hybrid with Direct4, the RX 500h sees Lexus shift its focus from optimum efficiency to produce a model with a genuine performance edge, raising the RX’s appeal with customers who want high-end electrified performance.

Lexus has launched the fifth generation RX with a brand-new design, new powertrains, greater performance, refined luxury, unparalleled safety and a revolutionary plug-in hybrid model.

Refined new chapter design language

During the design process  the team took inspiration from the model’s rich heritage to produce a car that is instantly recognisable while also being more dynamic, elegant and confident.

As part of the process a new design language called New Chapter was formulated which incorporates a new spindle body, achieved by integrating the signature spindle grille concept into the entire front of the vehicle. The slim headlight units and a front track that is 15mm wider emphasises the car’s lower centre of gravity and planted look. Sculpted surfaces on the door panels, flared rear wings and 21-inch wheels add a sense of dynamism.

The rear features a shorter overhang, wider track and sweeping transition from the wings around to the taillights. The rear combination lights are set in a light bar that spans the width of the car and wraps around the corners to heighten the wider look which is further underlined by the new Lexus word logo.

F Sport models are fitted with a bespoke front bumper that expresses a wide and low stance and contributes to aerodynamic performance. These models also gain 21-inch, exclusive, multi-spoke, black gloss aluminium wheels, six-piston brake callipers and the grille features an exclusive mesh pattern.

Under the bonnet

The new RX is available with three different electrified powertrains. The RX 450h+ adopts plug-in hybrid technology and offers 65km of EV driving range. Once the battery is depleted, the vehicle switches seamlessly to the self-charging hybrid system, maintaining high fuel and emissions efficiency. The system uses a four-cylinder Atkinson cycle 2.5-litre hybrid engine paired to the Lexus e-CVT system and a rechargeable lithium-ion battery with an 18.1kWh capacity. An additional rear electric motor enables Lexus E-four fulltime all-wheel drive. Total output measures 227kW.

A milestone performance hybrid with Direct4, the RX 500h sees Lexus shift its focus from optimum efficiency to produce a model with a genuine performance edge, raising the RX’s appeal with customers who want high-end electrified performance. This model uses a completely new parallel hybrid architecture, featuring a turbocharged 2.4-litre petrol engine with six-speed automatic transmission, integrated front motor and power control unit, hybrid battery and compact rear e-axle. A total system output of 273kW and 550Nm allows this model to sprint to 100km/h in 6,2 seconds while using just 6,5 litres per 100km. The intelligent all-wheel drive system uses a separate electric motor and inverter to constantly balance the power and torque between the front and rear axles in any driving situation.

The RX 350h is characterised by a smooth and efficient self-charging hybrid system. The 2.5-litre petrol drivetrain offers 184kW while using just 5,4 litres per 100km thanks to the same selection of hybrid components as used in the RX 450h+.

In addition to these electrified options a RX 350 is available with a new 2.4-litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine that offers 205kW and 430Nm and is paired to a short-ratio eight-speed Direct Shift-8AT and electronically controlled full-time all-wheel drive. This model is capable of accelerating to 100km/h in 7,6 seconds while using an average of 8,7 litres per 100km.

Inside story

Inside the driver-centred cockpit focuses on giving the driver direct, intuitive control of the vehicle. This was achieved by optimising SUV fundamentals such as the centre of gravity, weight reduction, rigidity and powertrain to create a more natural dialogue between the car and the driver and results in the car shrinking around the driver by providing a nimble, agile driving experience. The improved handling is made possible by the use of the Lexus GA-K platform which offers excellent body rigidity and a low centre of gravity.

The interior expresses luxury through simplicity with a less is more approach which prioritises a cool, contemporary look featuring clean, uncluttered surfaces. The large 14-inch touchscreen and provision of physical buttons for frequently used functions helps minimise driver head movement.

Creature comforts include three-zone air conditioning, a 21-speaker Mark Levinson audio system, wireless charger, illuminated entry, heads up display as well as seat heating and ventilation. Cargo volume is 612 litres with the rear seats in place.

The latest in safety technology

The RX benefits from the third-generation Lexus Safety System+, with an improved Pre-Crash System. It is also available with Lexus’ Safe Exit Assist which prevents doors being opened into the path of vehicles or cyclists approaching from the rear. Elements of the integrated safety technology include Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert and abnormal driver condition response system.

The Adaptive Variable Suspension featured across the range provides independent damping control at each wheel, contributing to a more comfortable ride on uneven surfaces, higher damping force when turning and flat ride stability and is customisable with Normal and Sport modes.

In addition there is D Auto where the Eco assistant offers situation adapted regeneration as it operates in gliding mode or decelerates in such a way that the bottom line is the most efficient and comfortable driving style possible.

The driver is shown in the instrument cluster and if applicable on the head up display when it is advisable to take their foot off the accelerator pedal due to an upcoming event. If the indication is followed, the vehicle is decelerated with the greatest possible energy recovery rate until it comes to a standstill if there is another vehicle ahead, for example. This is literally one pedal driving as the driver does not need to operate the brake pedal for this.

Toyota the GR Supra manual

Toyota the GR Supra manual

Adding the GR Supra to the line-up means that Toyota has all four of its GR models in SA, including the Yaris, Corolla  and 86, with a manual transmission or the option of a manual transmission.

Toyota has listened to the requests of sports car fans and is introducing a manual version of their GR Supra.

The addition of the GR Supra to the line-up means that Toyota now offers all four of its GR models in South Africa, including the GR Yaris, GR Corolla and GR86, with a manual transmission or the option of a manual transmission.

True to Toyota’s thoroughbred engineering standards is the fact that a new transmission along with a new clutch has been engineered specifically to suit the power and torque characteristics of the GR Supra 3.0-litre engine. The engineering team was able to modify the existing transmission housing, driveshaft and gear set and remove elements that were not required in the interests of weight reduction.

At the heart of the transmission is a newly engineered clutch with a larger diameter, larger friction area and reinforced spring ensuring that it has the capability to manage the high torque of the GR Supra’s engine.

In addition to a manual model, the power output of the straight-six 3.0-litre engine has been increased from 250 to 280kW on both manual and automatic derivatives.

Retuned suspension

All GR Supra versions benefit from retuned suspension including more rigid front and rear anti-roll bar bushes and re-tuned shock absorbers. The mechanical components in the electric power steering and the systems operating parameters have also been re-tuned.

With the manual gearbox comes a greater chance of wheelspin, especially when pulling away on slippery surfaces, necessitating engineers to retune the car’s traction control to achieve smooth operation, like that experienced with the automatic, while also being optimised for the GR Supra’s high engine torque, wide tyres and rear-wheel drive.

The cars behaviour when exiting a corner is a key component of its fun to drive characteristic and on the manual derivative the traction control has been optimised to ensure an ideal balance of agility and stability when exiting a corner. TRC intervention has been calibrated to maintain stability, while allowing the right amount of power for a sporty feeling.

In addition, a new Hairpin+ function is designed to allow more freedom and reward, specifically when negotiating tight bends on an uphill gradient where more free wheel spin can make such routes more enjoyable to drive.

In addition, Track mode has been tuned to allow for easy drifting with freedom of throttle control where the vehicle remains agile but there is less risk of spinning thanks to specific engine and torque control.

Inside story

The interior has been treated to several updates to accommodate the manual transmission, with specific consideration given to ensuring the gear knob was optimally placed for precise, rapid and rewarding gear changes. To achieve perfect ergonomics, the console unit and the control for drive mode selection has been redesigned.

The feel of the gear shift in the hand and the weight of operation are part of the human connection so particular attention was paid to the weight and shape of the gar knob and the quality of shift engagemen

Now is the time to spring clean your vehicle

Now is the time to spring clean your vehicle

Statistics show that South Africans spend a minimum of three hours a week in their car, so keeping your car clean is a great way of improving the driving experience.

Consumer advice, as warmer weather arrives across South Africa, now is a good time to spring clean your car, in preparation for summer. Apart from cleaning your car after winter, spring is also a good time to inspect the vehicle mechanically. Cold winter months can have an adverse effect as lower temperatures can interfere with complex systems, parts and connections. Metal parts can constrict and shrink, fluids can freeze, expand and contract and rubber seals, gaskets and belts can become stiff and brittle.

Clean your car thoroughly

Statistics show that South Africans spend a minimum of three hours a week in their car, so keeping your car clean is a great way of improving the driving experience.

Keeping the exterior of your vehicle clean ensures the bodywork and paint are maintained, which is vital in protecting the value of the vehicle. Dirt such as mud can build up in winter, which is bad for paintwork and can also lead to rust and corrosion of untreated components. Spring is the ideal time to wash away the winter grime. While thoroughly cleaning the vehicle inspect it for any damage or components that might be loose or in need of replacing.

Maintaining interior cleanliness ensures that dirt doesn't accumulate around equipment. Most importantly, driving in a clean vehicle ensures a more pleasurable experience for you and your passengers. Remove and wash floor mats and liners, then vacuum and replace floor mats and liners once they are completely dry. Wipe down the windows and the steering wheel with car safe cleaning products.

Rotate the tyres

Tyres on the front and rear axle will wear differently and rotating the tyres periodically is a great way of prolonging the lifespan of the set of tyres and ensuring that they all wear down relatively evenly. Tyres are a vital safety feature and need to be kept in the best condition possible. It is also critical to ensure that your cars tyres are always inflated to the correct pressure for the load you are carrying.

Replace windshield wiper blades

Cold winter temperatures are rough on rubber components like windshield wipers. Spring is a good time to inspect and replace your wiper blades, if necessary, before the summer rains arrive. Getting caught in a downpour with ineffective wiper blades is extremely dangerous as not being able to see sufficiently could have serious consequences. At the same time be sure to check that the windshield wiper fluid is replenished and add a bespoke cleaning fluid to further improve its effectiveness.

Inspect the brakes

As with tyres, brakes are also an essential safety feature on vehicles and can take a beating during winter months. Listen closely for any grinding, clanking or squealing noises and have your brakes attended to by a professional if you suspect any potential shortcomings.

Check steering and suspension

Potholes are a common feature on South African roads and hitting these obstructions can damage a vehicles steering or suspension components or cause the wheels to be out of alignment. Driving with misaligned wheels can cause premature suspension and tyre wear. Vibrations or off centre steering are sure signs that you should have your wheel alignment check by a specialist, who will utilise sophisticated measuring equipment to ensure it is returned to the manufacturer’s specifications.

Replenish fluids

Check all fluids and replenish as needed. Winter forces a vehicle’s engine to work a bit harder, causing condensation and moisture build up that can create unnecessary wear. Any drop in fluid levels could indicate a leak somewhere and it is best to have these checked before a bigger problem arises.

Ensure optimal visibility

Cleaning the cars windscreen and all windows thoroughly, inside and out, guarantees visibility for the driver, passengers and other road users. Marks and blemishes can be dangerous as the glare of the sun can catch these marks and obstruct visibility. Any chips or cracks should be attended to, either by windscreen chip treatment or having the windscreen replaced as higher summer temperatures will cause these cracks to expand, further reducing visibility.

It is also important to ensure that all lights, including headlights, brake lights and indicators are in working order and completely clear of any stains or markings.

Service the vehicle

Consumer advice, the manufacturers service intervals and recommendations on which parts need to be replaced at these service intervals are carefully calculated to ensure the reliability and longevity of your vehicle. It is therefore important not to skimp on vehicle servicing and to have your vehicle service in line with these recommendations. Well serviced vehicles will use an optimal amount of fuel, will remain reliable for many years, ensure occupant safety and protect the resale value of the vehicle and spring is a great time to have your vehicle service if it was neglected over the winter months.
