Refreshed Audi Q5 goes on sale
Popular Audi Q5 receives mid-life upgrade inside and out
Audi have made their popular Q5 mid-sized SUV even more attractive with a mid-life facelift. These updates combine a sporty character with excellent everyday usability and versatility. The updated exterior design places emphasis on the Audi Q SUV identity and boasts a rear light cluster featuring digital OLED technology, for the first time.
The octagonal single frame grille is now shallower and appears wider than before while the side inlets have grown in height and are now structured by trapezoidal insets. Rounding off the front end are LED daytime running lights that give the Q5 a new signature.
When viewed from the side, the Q5 now has a lighter look with enhanced ground clearance thanks to a redesigned sill insert, while the rear end features a new trim element between the light clusters.
Trim lines now include standard, Advanced and S-line. The Advanced model can be differentiated by chromed details in the grille and silver under ride guards. The S-Line model features a honeycomb pattern on the grille and a chrome strip that frames the rear diffuser. Advanced and S line models include the high gloss styling package.
Interior updates
A horizontal emphasis within the interior conveys a feeling of breadth and lightness. A, elegant dashboard inlay separates the upper and lower sections of the dashboard, with the freestanding MMI touch display with acoustic feedback becoming the focal point. The rotary/push control that occupied the centre console has been replaced by a storage cubby.
First class connectivity
A new main unit in the Q5, the third generation Modular Infotainment platform, offers ten times the computing power of its predecessor.
This unit powers the conventional dashboard with centrally positioned driver information system or the top of the range Audi virtual cockpit plus, which includes a high-resolution 12.3-inch digital display. The central 10.1-inch MMI touch display is standard equipment in the Q5.
Digital OLED technology for the rear lights
The latest generation OLED lighting technology is available for the first time ever in the updated Q5. OLEDs are extremely organic light-emitting diodes that generate a homogenous light surface. The rear light is split into three tiles of six segments each, which allows developers to create different light designs and signatures from one piece of hardware.
This allows for programming such as a rear-light signature animation when unlocking the vehicle. Proximity detection will see the system light up if another vehicle gets within two metres of the stationary Q5 and dynamic turn signals add the final touch.
Powerful performance
The updated Audi Q5 will be available with a choice of two engines. The 40 TDI offers 140kW and 400Nm from its two-litre four-cylinder diesel and allows the Q5 to accelerate from 0-100 in 7.9 seconds.
The 2.0-litre, four-cylinder TFSI in the 45TFSI offers 183kW and 370Nm. The 0-100km/h sprint is dispatched of in 6.3 seconds and a mild hybrid system contributes to the low fuel consumption.
Both engines are paired to a seven-speed S tronic gearbox that sends power to the Quattro all-wheel drive with ultra-technology, which also contributes to efficiency.
SQ5 TFSI receives updates too
The optimised SQ5 TFSI now looks even more impressive thanks to a powerful stance and striking details that give it a more rugged appearance. Vertical fins provide structure to the large side air inlets on the front bumper while the large honeycomb sections in the single frame grille are linked by narrow bars with an aluminium finish.
A matte aluminium strip is integrated into the lower bumpers above the diffuser insert and four chrome tailpipes.
Under the bonnet is a three-litre petrol V6 engine that boasts a whopping 260kW and 500Nm, allowing the SQ5 to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 5.4 seconds on its way to a limited top speed of 250km/h.
Standard equipment on this sporty model includes a self-locking centre differential, red brake callipers, sports suspension, S model bumpers, Audi connect navigation and infotainment, virtual cockpit Plus, fine Nappa leather and a sporty leather-wrapped steering wheel.
