Mitsubishi have expanded their product offering with the launch of the seven-seater Xpander, that combines the versatility of MPV with the sporty looks of an SUV. Mitsubishi hope that thanks to this model they will be able to strengthen their position in both the MPV and compact SUV segments of the market.

Unique styling

Core to the modern, yet practical styling is Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield Design, which is said to express a feeling of performance and protection. The new face with its black central area builds on this approach with a touch of sportiness and performance.

Sporty wheels, in 15 or 16-inch and flared wheel arches add a sporty touch. Crystal clear headlights, daytime running lights and L-illuminated LED taillights extend onto the tailgate and complete the overall look.

The exterior is pure SUV, with stylish ruggedness and practicality that allows owners to tackle a variety of terrain with confidence, without compromising on comfort. 205mm of ground clearance mean that it doesn't only look the part, but can really tackle rough roads.

Under the bonnet

Both models in the line up feature a DOHC 1.5-litre engine. Mitsubishi’s MIVEC system contributes to impressive figures of 77kW at 6000rpm and 141Nm at 4000rpm. The only differentiating factor between the two different models is the gearbox. The Xpander is available with either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission.

Mitsubishi claim that the Xpander will use only 6.9 litres/100km in manual guise and 7.0 litres/100km in automatic configuration.

Inside story

The interior provides ample space for up to seven adults to travel in comfort and style. Flexible seating can be configured to suit a variety of needs including carrying passengers or lifestyle-focused items. The second and third row seats feature a 60/40 split, while the third row can be folded completely flat.

A host of equipment comes standard to ensure occupant comfort including air-conditioning, electric windows, USB port, 120W power sockets in every row and clever storage compartments under the seats.

The tilt and telescopic multifunction steering wheel features Bluetooth voice control for hands free communication.

Safety equipment includes driver and front passenger airbags, seatbelt pre-tensioners, ABS, EBD and Isofix child seat anchors.

Pricing and availability

The Mitsubishi Xpander is sold with a three-year/100 000km warranty and a two-year/30 000km service plan.
