The name Corolla needs no introduction, first launched in 1966, it was the start of great things for Toyota. Named after the ring of petals on the central part of a flower, it was Toyota’s first mainstream compact car.

The 12th generation Corolla was launched in 2019 introducing the Toyota Global Architecture (TNGA) platform and a bold new design.

In just over 90 days one of SA’s most beloved nameplates will be seen in an all-new model, the locally built Corolla Cross. The Corolla has a rich history in South Africa across its 12 generations that included sedan, hatchback and station wagon variants. With the launch of the Corolla Cross the nameplate enters the SUV segment.

The Corolla has always evolved to meet the needs of the market of the times and countries that it is sold in. The addition of an SUV to the Corolla range gives customers looking for an SUV another choice and one that carries a respected nameplate.

The utilisation of the TNGA platform (GA-C), which has done duty in the Prius, C-HR and Corolla models will ensure that the Corolla Cross offers high-quality performance and a comfortable ride. Easy entry and exit, class-leading luggage space and safety equipment have been inherited from the Corolla series. Occupants are transported in a, spacious, stylish ergonomically designed interior that offers superb visibility.

The Corolla Cross fuses the design language of the Corolla Sedan and Hatch models with an SUV shape. Large elongated headlamps have been placed beside a prominent trapezoidal grille.

The side profile features noticeable fender flares while the rear employs large elliptical tail lamps complete with trapezoidal detailing.

A number of accessory packages that include rugged, adventure-themed variants and sporty urban enhancements will allow for a degree of personalisation.

The Corolla Cross will join the Toyota range between the successful C-HR and RAV4 models, in terms of both size and powertrain offerings.
