Volkswagen adds Taigo to SUV range
Volkswagen are expanding their SUV offering with the launch of the Taigo compact SUV
Along with the T-Cross and T-Roc, the Taigo completes Volkswagen's trio of compact SUVs in the A0 segment. By the end of the year, the Volkswagen T SUV range will comprise seven models including the T-Cross, Taigo, T-Roc, Tiguan, Tiguan Allspace, Tiguan R and Touareg.
The Taigo derives its name from a combination of tiger and Taigo, which is a forest in the Northern Hemisphere. Volkswagen says that the name and model symbolises strength, outdoors and adventure.
The Taigo is based on Volkswagens MBQ AO platform, which is also the basis for the popular Polo and T-Cross and will therefore allow for the fitment of the same cutting edge technology, safety systems and engines.
The Taigo will be similarly sized to the T-Cross but offers stylish coupé like styling with a sloping roof profile along with a raised seating position and pioneering connectivity. A wide array of driver assistance systems guarantees comfort and a high level of safety for all passengers. Full LED headlights, a digital cockpit and the latest generation of infotainment systems will see the Taigo set a high standard in terms of technology in its class. The Taigo will also be offered with Volkswagen’s popular tilting and sliding panoramic sunroof.
Volkswagen's SUV range has become immensely popular in recent years, to such a point that historical sedan and hatchback nameplates such as Jetta and to a certain degree Golf have ben replaced with a variety of SUV models in line with customer demands for a command driving position and increased ground clearance.
The Volkswagen T range will henceforth include the T-Cross, Taigo, T-Roc, Tiguan, Tiguan Allspace and Touareg.
Locally the Volkswagen Taigo model range will only be available with a 1.0 TSI 85kW DSG engine, which offers a good combination of frugality and performance.
