Volkswagen Amarok 190kW goes on sale
Volkswagen claims the most powerful bakkie title with 190kW Amarok
Retail of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle’s most powerful bakkie has now commenced. The introduction of the Amarok Double Cab with 190kW is a celebration of 10 years of Amarok in South Africa.
The numbers game
The most powerful Amarok in the range distinguishes itself from the rest of the range through a new 3.0-litre V6 190kW TDI engine, which has 25kW more power as well as 30Nm more torque than the outgoing 165kW derivative.
All 190kW is available between 3 000 and 4 000rpm and 580Nm between 1 400 and 2 750rpm and is channelled through an eight speed automatic gearbox. The 190kW Amarok is also fitted with launch control, which will allow it to complete the 0-100km/h sprint in just 7.6 seconds on its way to a top speed of 207km/h. Volkswagen claim an average fuel consumption figure of 9.5 litres per 100 kilometres.
With an over boost function that powers the Amarok to a maximum power output of 200kW for 10 seconds, it is the most powerful bakkie on sale in South Africa at the moment.
Is it still practical?
Off-road ABS and stability control enhance the Amarok’s safety features and disc brakes all round ensure adequate stopping power. The Amarok also has the largest bin, largest loading width and largest cabin in its class.
Two specification levels
The top of the range Amarok will be available in Highline and top of the range Extreme specification which includes Vienna leather heated seats, increased GVM from 2.8 to 3.0 tons, Bi-Xenon headlights, front and rear Park Distance Control with rear-view camera, climatronic air-conditioning as well as 18-inch Manaus alloy wheels.
The Extreme adds Nappa leather seats, Discover Pro Media system which includes satellite navigation and 20-inch Talca alloy wheels to the already high level of specification.
