2022 is set to be a bumper year for Volkswagen with a number of new models launches planned.

The first quarter of the year will see the introduction of the facelifted Polo and Polo GTI as well as the all-new Caddy.

Caddy is coming

The fifth generation of this popular contender in the city van segment will be launched with a new naming convention with models under the Caddy, Caddy Maxi, Caddy Kombi, Caddy Maxi Kombi, Caddy Cargo and Caddy Maxi Cargo nomenclature.

The exterior features a striking sporty design awhile being based on the MQB platform allows the implementation of a host of cutting edge technology.

Inside the new Caddy is set to impress with high-tech solutions and more space. The Caddy Maxi Cargo is able to swallow two Euro pallets. Upfront the indicator and control elements have been completely redesigned while new radio and infotainment systems are smartphone compatible.

The new Caddy range will be available with one petrol and one diesel engine option.

A busy second quarter

The second quarter of 2022 will see the introduction of five new models including the Golf 8 R, Tiguan R, Tiguan Allspace facelift, Taigo and T-Roc facelift.

The Ultimate Golf

The eighth generation Golf R is Volkswagens ultra high performance hatchback. This model features 4Motion all-wheel drive and a 2.0 litre turbocharged engine that produces a whopping 235kW and 420Nm. VW claim that this configuration allows the Golf 8 R to complete the 0-100km/h sprint in just 4.7 seconds on its way to a top speed of 250km/h.

All new Taigo is headed our way

The second quarter will also see Volkswagen SA introducing the all-new Taigo. The Taigo is a new addition to Volkswagen’s range of SUVs in the small vehicle segment that impresses with a dynamic and emotional design and is set to feature a multitude of assistance systems and state of the art connectivity.

Similar in size to the popular T-Cross the Taigo boasts coupé like styling instead with the Crossover Utility Vehicle combining an elevated seating position with a sporty coupé silhouette.

Fleet options are getting revised too

The third quarter will see the addition of the new Polo sedan, which has become a stalwart of fleets and e-hailing services.

The all-new Amarok bakkie, which will be built in conjunction with Ford here in South Africa, is also due for local introduction towards the end of 2022, however exact timing is yet to be confirmed.
