All-new Kia Sportage goes on sale

The all-new fifth generation Kia Sportage has gone on sale in South Africa. With a bold sporty design, the Sportage brings innovation and excitement to the SUV segment thanks to the combination of a hearty driver-centric design, advanced driver assistance systems and state of the art interior finishes.

Opposites United

Kia is known globally for its design and with the new Sportage, the brand once again established updated design boundaries with Kia’s new design language, dubbed Opposites United, at the core of the new Sportage and influencing every aspect of its appearance and character. The result is that in terms of design the Sportage has taken things to a completely new level.

From the front, the new Sportage showcases a precise and intricate design form with a detail-orientated black grille graphic. This graphic stretches across the width of the face and pulls together the main frontal features of the all-new Sportage, linking Kia’s modern signature Tiger Nose grille to the distinctive futuristic-styled boomerang-shaped LED DRLs, which also create solid boundary lines for the striking Matrix LED headlamps.

The side profile now features taut lines and a chrome beltline that kicks up onto the rear and into the D-pillar, creating harmonious lines in combination with the rear spoiler, which further adds to the sporting pedigree of the car.

A strong road presence is maintained at the rear thanks to a muscular swooping fastback design that flows into the rear lamps. Razor rear lamps are connected by a slim horizontal design, adding a stunningly wide impression from the back.

Depending on the model, the Sportage is fitted with 17-inch, 18-inch or 19-inch wheels and there is a choice of 12 exterior colours.

Inside story

The interior utilises the highest quality materials that are sumptuous to touch and innovative technology to create a driver-oriented space that is state of the art. At the centre is a beautifully sculpted integrated curved display with a slim touchscreen pad and finely detailed air vents. The 12.3-inch touchscreen allows for the control of functions relating to connectivity, functionality and usability and utilises the latest generation full thin-film transistor LCD display to offer incredibly precise and clear graphics.

An ergonomic centre console has been optimally positioned to provide storage, operating system configuration, cup holders and soft-touch switches.

A new platform and engine

The Sportage is based on the company’s new N3 architecture that offers a refined, stable and comfortable ride with agile and dynamic handling. The Sportage is offered exclusively with a 1.6-litre T-GDi petrol engine mated to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.

This turbocharged direct injection engine features continuously variable valve timing, all coming together to offer 132kW at 5 500rpm and 265Nm from 1500rpm.

Safety remains a priority

Underneath its sleek exterior is a reinforced and lightweight body structure that ensures safety critical parts of the passenger compartment are reinforced, which is complimented by a raft of active and passive safety features and advanced driver assistance systems.

All Sportage models feature six airbags, Isofix child seat anchors, ABS with EBD and ESC as well as Hill-Start Assist Control, Downhill Brake Control and Trailer Stability Assist.

All models also feature smart entry with push button start as well as an electric parking brake with auto-hold functionality. A variety of advanced driver assistance systems are also on offer, depending on the model.

Model range and pricing

The new Sportage is available in a variety of specification levels, ensuring that there is a model that caters for every need, taste and price point.

All models are sold with an unlimited kilometre/five-year warranty, inclusive of roadside assistance as well as a six-year/90 000km service plan.
