The Kia EV6 electric crossover has been awarded the 2022 German Car of the Year title in the Premium category. The prestigious award comes in the wake of the innovative crossovers debut across Europe.

The Kia EV6 faced stiff competition in the form of the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Volkswagen ID.4, Audi Q4 e-tron, Skoda Enyaq and Mercedes-Benz C-Class among others. A jury consisting of 20 automotive journalists evaluated new models with a base price of between 25 000 and 50 000 euros to determine the overall category winner.

The competition also included an additional category called New Energies, which represented electric vehicles powered solely by batteries or hydrogen and the Kia EV6 was ranked second in this category.

The EV6 is the first Kia based on the new Electric-Global modular platform and the first model that incorporates Kia’s new and bold Opposite United design philosophy as well as the new company logo.

The EV6 is Kia’s first dedicated battery electric vehicle (BEV) based on its all-new Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). The high-tech architecture enables the vehicle to achieve up to 528 kilometres of driving range from a single charge. Advanced 800V charging technology means that drivers can charge the EV6 from 10 to 80% in just 18 minutes. The EV6 features class-leading interior space and a wide range of driver assistance and infotainment technologies.

A performance focussed EV6 GT featuring 430kW and the ability to accelerate to 100km/h in just 3.5 seconds will go on sale internationally at the end of 2022. In this model the 58.0kWh battery pack is paired with a 125kW electric motor powering the rear wheels. AWD models feature two more powerful electric motors that produce a combined 173kW.
