The festive season means increased traffic loads on the major routes in and out of Gauteng. Kia and Motus have once again partnered with Bakwena to help increase visible policing along the N1 and N4 national highways right throughout the holiday period. The aim of this initiative is to assist law enforcement officers in their attempts to boost road safety and curb accidents.

Kia has sponsored six vehicles including two Pegas models, two Sonets, a Sorento and a Grand Sedona. These vehicles will be used for visible policing, route surveillance, accident assistance and to assist any motorists that might be stranded along these routes. 2021 marks the tenth year that Motus has partnered with Bakwena on this initiative.

The December holiday period has become well known for increased incidents of drinking and driving, speed and general dangerous driving. Throughout the holiday period Bakwena will assist local traffic authorities in carrying out regular enforcement along the route in a bid to clamp down on irresponsible behaviour.

According to Kia South Africa’s CEO, Gary Scott, road safety is a top priority for Kia, “As a global brand with a proudly South African heart, we believe in collaborating with the right partners to ensure that everyone benefits. Thanks to our affiliation with Bakwena, we’ll be able to assist motorists with much needed support on the roads while travelling this festive season,” said Scott.

Road safety is a priority all year round for Bakwena, who have various road safety initiatives that take place throughout the year in the communities adjacent to its route. The efficacy of these Kia and Bakwena partnership is well proven. During the 2020 December holiday campaign, the six Kia vehicles covered a collective 59 876km over a 32-day period, allowing law enforcement from the City of Tshwane, Limpopo and North West provinces to stop and inspect 4 382 vehicles, assist 154 motorists along the route and attend to 52 accidents.
