Subaru Crosstrek goes on sale in SA
Subaru’s new Crosstrek compact SUV is packed with features
The all-new Subaru Crosstrek is now available in South Africa boasting next generation vehicle safety, refinement, comfort, and capability.
The Crosstrek replaces the previously marketed Subaru XV as it takes up the role of compact SUV in the Subaru range alongside the Forester and Outback.
The Crosstrek’s design represents a bold and non-conformist form evoking a sense of playfulness and adventure. A hexagonal 3D grille is flanked by sharper headlight clusters and bulging wheel arches. Extensive wheel arch cladding and rocker panels reinforce the SUV styling while the rear features pronounced C-shaped taillight clusters.
Inside story
The Subaru Crosstrek features a rich cabin experience as the new model takes a significant leap forward in terms of in-car refinement and human centered design. The Crosstrek features Subaru’s latest interior design, driver multi-function display and steering wheel as well as a new 11.6-inch central display. Flagship models are fitted with the larger portrait layout HD display that runs the latest Subaru infotainment architecture and facilitates functionality such as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, vehicle settings for the EyeSight Driver Assistance features and X-Mode settings to name a few. The Crosstrek is also fitted with Subaru’s innovative Driver Monitoring system that monitors driver fatigue or drowsiness. Via facial recognition this system has the ability to detect up to five faces and their related driver profiles regarding seating position and climate control preferences.
Ready for adventure
As with all Subaru models sold in South Africa, Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive System is a standard feature across the range and has been refined with faster response times that enhance the vehicle’s agility and control across different driving environments and surfaces.
Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder liquid-cooled boxer engine that produces 115 kW at 6 000rpm and 196Nm at 4 000rpm. The engine is coupled to a quieter, more efficient CVT that also features paddles shifters for the selection of eight pre-set ratios.
Active Torque Vectoring and SI-Drive driving mode management system are standard fare on the new Crosstrek and have been optimised for improved driver feel.
The Crosstrek offers stellar off-road capability thanks to Subaru’s Driver selectable X-Mode off-road management system. The system features pre-configured modes including Snow/Dirt, Deep Snow and Mud Assist, which manages the torque, braking and wheel spin to each wheel depending on the conditions. Also, part of the X-Mode suite is Hill Assist for easy take-offs on inclines and Hill Descent Control which maximises traction when descending slippery gradients.
Improved five-star safety
The Crosstrek features improved Primary, Active and Passive safety technology. This strategy is based on improved outward visibility and Subaru’s all-wheel drive system. Passive safety measures include the revised Subaru Global Platform that features additional sub-frames on the front, side, and rear of the platform for better protection. Nine airbags are present which includes a driver’s knee and passenger seat cushion airbags as well as an airbag that deploys between the front seats to reduce the severity of collisions between the front seat occupants. The Crosstrek is also fitted with the latest and fastest version of the award-winning EyeSight Driver Assist Technology that facilitates the operation of Pre-Collision Braking for Emergencies, Lane Departure Prevention, Lane Centering and Emergency Lane Keep Assist, adaptive Cruise Control with traffic crawling ability, traffic sign recognition and intelligent speed limiter.
