Toyota launches Hilux GR Sport
Toyota Hilux now available with 165kW
Following in the footsteps of the Toyota Corolla Cross, the Hilux is the next model to receive the GR treatment. The 2022 Hilux GR Sport features a host of unique design and dynamic features that differentiates it from its counterparts and positions it as the hero model of the range.
Sporty exterior design
The Hilux GR-S features a large and prominent black front grille, horizontal cross bar and Toyota lettering. The LED headlights have received special treatment and they are flanked by vertically stacked air ducts featuring integrated LED fog lamps.
Bumpers are based on those fitted to Raider models and include wider black overfenders along with contrasting inserts, giving the GR Sport a more aggressive appearance. Black mirror caps, door handles, side steps and rear styling bar continue the theme. Customers also have the choice of adding GR side decals to the doors to further add to the visual drama.
The Hilux GR Sport will be available in four colours namely Arizona Red, Graphite Grey, Attitude Black and Glacier White.
Interior updates
Interior enhancements include a new instrument cluster featuring metallic bezels and red needles, a leather steering wheel with red stitching and sporty aluminium pedals with rubber inserts. The Push Start button and centre console now feature GR branding.
Carbon fibre trim replaces the regular brushed finish and is further complemented by red accent trim. Motorsport inspired seats feature Alcantara inserts, GR badging on the headrests, red accent panels and power adjustment for the driver.
Sporty suspension
New monotube shock absorbers are paired with stiffer coil springs to ensure improved high-speed stability and handling. The 17-inch alloy wheels in a Titanium colour are fitted with taller profile 265-65-R17 tyres, offering improved off-road performance.
Under the bonnet
The 2.8-litre GD-6 features a significant power increase in the form of an additional 15kW and 50Nm and now boasts a total of 165kW and 550Nm. This was achieved thanks to revised ECU mapping as well as fine-tuning of the shifting characteristics of the six-speed automatic transmission.
All GR-S models are based exclusively on the 4x4 transaxle mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with Auto LSD drivetrain layout.
Safety and Security
The Hilux GR-S comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense, which incorporates Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert, Pre-Collision System, ABS, VSC, EBD, Hill Assist Control and Brake Assist in addition to Isofix child seat anchors and a full compliment of airbags.
Specification and pricing
Standard specification is closely aligned to that of the Legend grade, however the auto dimming rear-view mirror and JBL audio system make way for a panoramic view monitor.
The Hilux GR-S is sold with a nine-services/90 000km service plan and three-year/100 000km warranty.
