The Volkswagen Amarok single cab went on sale in South Africa last month and marks the return of the German brand to the workhorse segment.

The new Volkswagen Amarok, which was designed in Germany and Australia, is built in South Africa at Ford’s Silverton plant. Local production makes it easier for Volkswagen to bring additional models to market as part of an extensive product portfolio and facilitated the return of the Volkswagen Amarok single cab to the market.

The new Volkswagen Amarok features a modern design which includes a charismatic front section and a straight, very upright bonnet with unambiguous Volkswagen DNA.

Under the bonnet

The Volkswagen Amarok will be available with a choice of two turbo diesel engines. The 110kW 2.0 TDI is based on a four-cylinder engine with a five-speed manual transmission and offers 110kW and 350Nm while using 6,9 litres per 100km.

The 125kW 2.0 TDI four-cylinder derivative is paired with a six-speed manual transmission and produces 125kw and 405Nm while still using only 6,6 litres per 100km.

High level of standard specification

Standard specification includes 16-inch steel wheels, a full-sized spare wheel, height-adjustable driver’s seat, LED headlights. Creature comforts include Bluetooth, a 10-inch colour touch-screen infotainment screen, eight-inch partial active-info display for the instrument cluster, electrically foldable mirrors, multi-function steering wheel and front centre armrest. Passenger safety is taken care of by driver, passenger, side, and curtain airbags.

The Amarok single cab 2.0 TDI 125kW 4x2 and Amarok Single Cab 2.0 TDI 125kW 4Motion derivatives offer additional specification which includes 17-inch Combra alloy wheels, a rear differential lock, towbar and raised suspension.

Ready to work

The new Amarok can accept a Euro pallet between its arches, allowing two Euro pallets to be loaded in sideways and secured via integrated rings that can each take a load of 500 kilograms. In line with this loading capacity, the maximum payload has increased to 1.16 tonnes while the new Amarok impresses with a towing capacity of 3 tonnes.

Model range and pricing

The new Volkswagen Amarok Single Cab is sold with a four-year/120 000km warranty and a six-year anti-corrosion warranty. 125kW models are also sold with a three-year/60 000km Easy Drive Service Plan.
