Within the Volkswagen brand, the letter R represents the pinnacle of performance and the Tiguan R and Golf R, which are scheduled to be launched in October 2022 and early in 2023 respectively, perfectly embody that philosophy

The most powerful Golf yet

The new Golf R promises to be more powerful, more dynamic, more efficient, and more digital than its predecessors.

Under the bonnet is a 2.0 litre turbocharged EA888 engine that produces a whopping 400Nm of torque, which enables it to accelerate from standstill to 100km/h in just 4.8 seconds.

The Golf R is able to put this power down thanks to a seven-speed DSG gearbox and a new 4Motion system with R-Performance Torque Vectoring. This system has the capability of distributing power between the front and rear axles, but also variably between the two rear wheels. The all-wheel drive is also coupled to other running gear systems such as the electronic diff locks and adaptive chassis control via the Vehicle Dynamics Manager.

Standard equipment in the Golf R will include inductive charging, panoramic sunroof, keyless entry, electric tailgate, Discover pro infotainment system, wireless app connect and voice control, 19-inch Estoril alloy wheels, Adaptive chassis control, Light and Vision package and Nappa leather seats.

Optional features include IQ.Light LD Matrix headlights, Akrapovic exhaust, head-up display, Harman Kardon sound system, Parallel Park Assist, Rear Assist with rear view camera, Blind Spot Monitor with rear traffic alert and Lane Assist with electronically folding side mirrors, Travel assist, Adaptive Cruise control and Autonomous Emergency Braking. The optional Black Performance Package adds 19-inch Estoril alloy wheels, Drift mode and allows for a top speed of 270km/h.

All-new Tiguan R

Volkswagen will also be launching the most powerful Tiguan yet, in the form of the Tiguan R in coming months. This model seamlessly combines the performance of a sports car with the versatility of a SUV. The Tiguan R is capable of accelerating to 100km/h in just 5.1 seconds on its way to a top speed of 250km/h.

The four-cylinder engine provides its maximum torque of 400Nm from as low as 2 100rpm and maintains that output until 5 350rpm. The power is transmitted to all four wheels via the 4Motion all-wheel drive system that features R-Performance Torque Vectoring and a seven-speed DSG gearbox.

Additional performance orientated features include 18-inch brakes with blue brake callipers, DCC chassis with adaptively controlled shock absorbers, a 10mm lower ride height and driving profile selection that includes a R profile.

Standard exterior equipment includes R design bumpers incorporating aerodynamic elements in high-gloss black or body colour, matt chrome mirror covers, a high-gloss rear diffuser, black wheel housing extensions, 20-inch Misano alloy wheels, Lights and Vision package, a panoramic sunroof and park distance control.

Inside the Tiguan R is differentiated by Nappa leather seats incorporating an R logo and a customised digital cockpit and carbon grey decorative trim. The Discover Pro audio system, Wireless App-Connect, Active Info Display, keyless entry and an electric tailgate are all standard fitment.

A wide range of optional equipment includes items such as IQ.Light LED Matrix headlights, Akrapovic Exhaust and 21-inch Estoril alloy wheels.
