Meticulously looked after Beemer proves hugely impressive!

Our BMW on test was so well cared for that people will never be able to tell it is a five-year-old vehicle. At the price it is without a doubt a vehicle that offers immensely high levels of value. A very rare find!

Background and condition of vehicle:

  • Overall quality proved excellent as you would have expected from this German brand.
  • Even after five years of driving and just about a 125 000km on the clock this BMW 120i’s interior believe it or not almost appeared like new.
  • The leather upholstery was in a pristine condition and it seems that the rear seats have mostly been unused in the last five years.
  • Similarly, the carpets in the boot appeared like new and also seemed to have rarely been used at all.
  • A vehicle that needs to be seen to be fully appreciated.
  • Although not new, the 205/55R16 tyres fitted to the vehicle will not need replacing soon as they still displayed plenty of tread depth.

Performance and Economy:

  • This BMW 120i comes powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine.
  • Maximum power output of a 130 Kilowatts and 250Nm might not sound all that impressive, yet the 120i delivers it’s power efficiently through its 8-speed automatic gearbox which ensures pretty impressive performance.
  • Our Beemer on test needs only 7.2-seconds to blast past a 100km/h, while it can also reach a top speed of around 230km/h.
  • Due to the engine’s excellent tractability and the exceptionally well-spaced ratios from the 8-speed box, power is always available, no matter at what speed you are travelling at, with virtually no lag at all.
  • The engine is well refined and quiet, offering a soothing ride.
  • With its stop start function you will also notice that it delivers fantastic economy, with a combined urban cycle of only 5.7-litres per 100Km.

How does it drive?

  • Aided by it’s slightly higher profile tyres ride refinement proved excellent for a hatchback of this nature.
  • So too, like we have become accustomed too with 1-series models handling proved surefooted and secure.
  • With instant response, yet silky smooth shifts the 8-speed automatic gearbox further enhances the overall brilliant driving dynamics of the BMW120i.

Inside the vehicle:

  • Inside the cabin you will find black leather upholstery accompanied by an array of creature comforts like a multi-media infotainment system, a front loader CD shuttle, as well as key-less entry and go.
  • Safety features included front and side airbags, a stability control system and ABS braking with EBD.
  • The full list of features included the following:
  • Climate Control  - Cruise control
  • Central Locking - Rain sensor
  • Auto headlights on   - Bluetooth phone connectivity
  • Infotainment system with screen - USB connection
  • On-Board trip computer - Front and side airbags (6)
  • Cupholders - Isofix rear seats
  • ABS braking with EBD - Stop/Start
  • Traction and stability control - Sport and Economy driving modes
  • Multi-function steering wheel - Park distance control front and rear
  • Electric windows - Leather upholstery
  • Voice command

Space and Practicality:

  • The interior is relatively spacious and when compared to it’s main rival the Mercedes-Benz C200 there certainly seems to be more space on offer, especially for rear passengers.
  • Boot space also trumps it’s German rival with 360-litres on offer which could be increased to 1 200-litres with the seats folded down.

Summary:

  • Overall a brilliant hatchback that almost over delivers in every way.
  • Good performance, impressive fuel economy and a high quality well kitted interior ensures immense value for money at the price, especially if as meticulously looked after as our test vehicle was.
  • Good news is that the remainder of the 6-year Motorplan is still in place, which could be extended as well.
  • Good performance
  • Frugal fuel economy
  • Quality materials
